Cocoa Island is all about living life close to the water, even the architecture a creative reflection of the island's setting and culture. Guests stay in contemporary timber water villas called 'dhonis', each one modelled after the local fishing craft and featuring private verandahs with steps leading down into the gin-clear waters of the Maldivian Sea.
Stylish, yet simple, they have drawn their inspiration from colonial themes, yet are equipped with all the modern comforts, including air-conditioning, mini-bars, TVs, DVD and CD-players. Little touches include umbrellas, resort bags, slippers and luxury Shambhala amenities.
The choice primarily lies between standard suites, with their step-down living areas leading out onto furnished sundecks, the more spacious loft suites with their staircases leading up to the bedroom, and six one and two-bedroom villas for those needing even more space. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows succeed in bringing the Indian Ocean right inside the room.
